Lulu is such a saucy and graceful character. "Yes, you can dream, but that's all you get to do."

I am fascinated by the clarity you get with such dark tones, and the sharp lines between dark and darker.

I first saw similar optical effects with large format cameras using very old shutterless lenses. Lots of edge blurring, kinda like swirling and blur, and heaps of distortion. [link]

Then I saw the kind of vignetting these lenses gave and thought how wonderful the effect was. [link]

So that was the inspiration for this digital approximation. Having Lulu in the viewfinder gave it exactly the energy it required to make it succeed, in my mind. She is unsurpassed, imho.

You two do photography like a pair of jazz musicians passing the theme back and forth. :)

I got at least on shot with the Weltur that was interesting enough to be worth posting. [link] The original was very low contrast, so I had to work at it to get much visible at all. I did a lot of dust cleanup (from the bellows, I assume) but the vignetting is straight from the negative.

Out of necessity, we had to wing it for both days. As it was hard to communicate ideas prior to the meet-up, I thought it best just to start cold and develop ideas over time. But with Lulu in front of the camera, her natural posture, creative concepts and general appearance made everything so easy.

Cuz of the old movie style you used, this is hot and elegant at the same time!

Thanks!
:D
I'm such a big fan of old movies. I think people look much more interesting when their image is modified by the qualities of (and the degradation of) old film. :)
